ECLECTIC SUMMER! Eclectic: composed of elements drawn from various sources. If you have followed our summer travel blog in the past, you'll know that we usually do 10,000 miles over about 50 something days. This year we have something new! It's short different trips a little closer to home. We have two grandsons we want to spend some time with and we have a new granddaughter arriving mid-July.

Chasing Statues - Part Two
This magnificent eagle statue is located in Liberty Park, Birmingham off I-459. It appears over a monument engraved with the names of Alabama's Eagle Scouts. It's located at the Boy Scout Headquarters here. One special section of the monument is the section for Outstanding Eagle Scouts. So many of Alabama's leaders are listed there.
Just down from this memorial is Lady Liberty.
At night, the torch is a real flame. According to the plaque at its base, this bronze replica was commissioned by the founder of Liberty National Life Insurance Company to stand atop its downtown office building. The statue was cast in France, set on its rooftop perch in 1958, and moved to its present location in 1989. At 36 feet tall this is among the largest Liberty replicas in the U.S.
She used to be located in downtown Birmingham atop the Liberty National Insurance Company building. When the company moved the headquarters to Liberty Park, Miss Liberty moved, too! When I find Miss Electra and put her story in the blog, you'll see the role Miss Liberty plays in that story!
Catch us down the road!
Jenny :)
